Term 4 Reflection

2 April 2009
In theory class, we discussed the performances that we will do this term. We also had signatures checked and got the report format.

14 April 2009
Today, we watched the each other play 'Fly me to the Moon' I think i did pretty well in my performance but I could have done better. After that, we discussed the group ensemble performance which is the assessment for this term.

Today we listened to different genres of jazz music such as ragtime, cool, etc. I actually enjoyed it since there were many varieties.

Today, we rehearsed the jazz ensemble with out own groups. My supervisor was Mr. John Legoh. He suggested we try a different song and we agreed to play "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz. It went pretty well and was pretty well.

Today, we did our reflection on our performances while also doing our ensemble rehearsal simultaneously in front of the class. So one group performs while the others write their reflections. Our group did very well on our rehearsal. The only problem was on the vocal and violin. The guitar and piano was satisfactory.

In theory class, we wrote down the url of our blogs where our reflection from term 3 was written. Then we learned inversion of 7th chord. It was actually quite simple for me. If one understand the basic concept, the rest is easy. We watched the assessment video for our practical assessment after that.

In theory class, we discussed our homework on inversion. I did mine very quickly yet it was all correct. Inversion was very easy for me since I understood it clearly. We were also questioned on the major scale notes by our teacher. After that we discussed the blog reflections. In instrument class, we rehearsed the jazz song in front of the class. My group needs work on the ending part of the song. The rest was fine.

In music class, we were given 20 minutes to have the last rehearsal for our jazz ensemble. Our group was ready and the practice went quite well. During the performance, I played quite good and so did the rest of the members in my group.

In theory class, we talked about how music is related to performance on other subjects. We talked about this because our morning assembly performance to the grade 10 students did not go so well. We also discussed time signatures on musical notes. We also wrote our reflection on our solo performance. After that we reviewed the intervals and major scales. Then we had a quiz. The wuiz was easy for me. I finished quickly and got perfect score.

In theory class, we watched the video of the ensemble performance given by the 10 BD music class. I think they did well on their performance. Other than that, we had another quiz on 7th chord inversion. It was quite easy and I did very well on it.

In theory class, we watched the performance of the last group ensemble who did not perform the other day due to a member being absent. In instrument class, we wacthed William sing since he was the only piano player that did not play piano in the group ensemble.

The result from the quiz came back and I received full marks. I'm very happy with this and I think I did very well in my quiz. It was quite easy so I had no difficulties doing it. Seeing as it was our last music lesson, in instrument class we played piano one by one for Mr. Herry. I played part of "River flows in You" by Yiruma. I think I did well on this. We also did a review on Mr. Herry's teaching and He said they were very enlightening and very good.

Term 4 Reflection
This term I learned a lot of things. I learned to play jazz music in a group. I developed my group skills while doing this activity. I also learned about 7th chord inversion and how to play the song "I'm Yours". Watching the other group play have been enlightening for me since it is such a pleasure to play and listen to music. I realized that doing group performances are more fun than solo performances. The results are also much better since an ensemble consist of many instruments. I feel that I have learned many important things and have gained precious memories and experiences this term.
